Sam Lemon writes:

"I've been streaming a TV series entitled, A Taste of History, with Chef Walter Steib, who operated City Tavern in Philadelphia for many years, before closing it due to the Covid epidemic.

His shows feature him cooking original recipes in colonial-era kitchens. Two episodes in particular might be of interest to our Providence community.

The first one posted below is about prominent Quakers, the Cooper family of Camden, who arrived here in 1681, just a year before William Penn. They owned a successful plantation in Camden. But Marmaduke Cooper was expelled from the Society of Friends in 1780 because he refused to free his slaves.

The second episode posted below is about William Penn's estate, Pennsbury Manor. They are free to watch. And there are also two articles about Walter Steib and the show."
