Our First Day School program for children ages 5-12 provides an opportunity to learn about Quakerism, explore their understanding and beliefs about God, and connect with each other and the Meeting community. Children sit for the first 20 minutes in meeting for worship and then go to their First Day School classes. Their class time typically involves a story for younger children or lesson for older children and then discussion and a game or craft activity. Classes conclude at the same time as worship. Ages 5-8 led by the team of Jay Dahlke, Janice Peterson, and Lynn Oberfield; ages 9-12 led by the team of Medard Gabel, Judy Fowler, and Mary Gabel.
Teens, ages 13-18, meet at various times other than Sunday morning. They take the lead in planning their own activities and events. Past eventshave included preparing food for the homeless, a weekend trip, an overnight in the meetinghouse, a meeting-wide Halloween party, and a car wash. Their time together also includes exploring questions about life, faith, and community service. Led by Joyce Malamut, Ken Park, Parker Snowe, Pat Coiner and Joe Elliott. Should a young person in this age range be present on First Day, they may sit with their parent/guardian in meeting for worship or assist with child care. Please check the calendar for teen events or contact or for more information.
First Day School for adults takes place jointly with Media Monthly Meeting, 125 W. 3rd Street, at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. We periodically have scheduled adult education/discussions at Providence Meeting at other times. Please check the calendar for these events.
The Meeting provides child care for children under five years of age during meeting for worship. Parents are welcome to bring young children into meeting for worship, along with the older children, for the first 20 minutes or to take them directly to child care. Parents should be assured that gentle sounds from young children are welcomed as ministry by the worshiping group.
